A Family Business

Greener By Design became the company name in 2005 following 26 years as Mornhurst Gardens, founded by Ann Roberts Levine, interior designer and mother of Greener By Design's owner Richard Heller. Ms. Levine had an interest in interior plants and Mr. Heller expanded that business to include his area in expertise, exterior urban landscapes. Together a multifaceted landscape design service was born.

Our name Greener By Design has two meanings; not only do we design landscapes, but we are also dedicated to the development and practice of "green" sustainable landscaping and land care. Our commitment to sustainable practices, informs out recommendations for plant materials that are right for the location and light conditions. We use only organic fertilizers, non chemical weed controls and recommend non chemical peast controls. Our designs also incorporate low voltage, energy efficient lighting and water conserving irrigation systems which will be better nuture the plans in our gardens.

Our firm is leading the New York industry in greenroofing as a tangible way to stop global warming. The company is devoted to, and invested in, leaving this world a little better shape than the way we found it.
